Riding in Adobe Valley (we do not expect snow on this ride)

I hope you all are planning to come to our members celebration at Benton Hot Springs the weekend of May 22-23!

One of the great activities we will be hosting is a bike ride in the Adobe Valley on Sunday morning. This remote stretch of HWY 120 connects Benton and HWY 395 just south of Lee Vining.

Check the route out online in Google maps/earth

We are planning to meet at the seasonal closure gate along HWY 120 about 4 miles west of Old Benton near Black Lake at 10AM (point B on the map link above). Those of you who are up for a little added challenge should plan on leaving the hot springs approximately 25 minutes earlier to do the climb from the Benton Valley up over the Benton Range (1,000 ft) into the Adobe Valley and meet the group at the rendezvous (Point B).

This ride is open to all ability levels so be sure to bring your bike and we will break into several groups depending on turnout. From here we will pedal west across the valley enjoying the high desert scenery and trying to capture views of wild horses, pronghorn, and other wildlife inhabiting this wild country.

One group will likely turn around at the western edge of the valley (point C) at approximately 7 miles, taking a break to enjoy Indian Meadows and Adobe Creek before heading back (14 miles round trip). Those who are feeling strong may continue onwards by climbing towards Granite Mountain, paralleling the beautiful North Canyon creek to a pass at Red Rock (point D), where the group ride will turn around and descend back to the valley (45 miles round trip).

Riders who wish to continue on unsupported, or who wish to arrange a shuttle or pick up are encouraged to do so on their own.

Come ride with us!
